Lakeside CC in Houston was devastated by Hurricane Harvey and was due for infrastructure investment and a comprehensive drainage plan. Like SentryWorld and Santa Ana, Jay was able to study an existing golf course and find ways to significantly enhance the property through re-routing.
The rerouting at LCC added a new 5 hole short course, a 40,000sf practice green / putting course, tripled the size of the short game practice, and expanded the range to accommodate 100 players at a time all while improving the flow and variety of the holes on the course. Jay studied the best courses on flat land in the South and noticed that classic layouts , incorporating template holes—such as the Road, Redan, and Biarritz—were a recurring theme. As such he followed that model while applying his own flavor to each of the holes. He emphasized creating engaging greens and surrounds that encourage thoughtful play, aiming to make the course enjoyable for both high- and low-handicap players.
This approach not only revitalized the course’s aesthetic appeal but also its strategic depth.
